Cruz was born on 28th of April, 1974 in Alcobendas (province of Madrid), Spain. She is the daughter of Encarna Cruz who was employed as a personal assistant and hairdresser to Encarna. Her father, Eduardo Cruz, a car mechanic from Extremaduran, also owned a retail store. Penelope Cruz was only 15 when she took home an agency model contest. When she was 15 she appeared on Spanish television shows and music videos. She was a star in Spanish film before becoming an international superstar, appearing in productions both in English as well as Spanish. Perabo's parents are Mary Charlotte (nee Ulland) who is a physical therapist and George William Perabo, a lecturer in poetry of Ocean County College.
